The small print, in plain English
1. What you’re buying
Registering a word grants you display and listing rights on WordEstate for that word: the right to have your title deed (name or brand, image, links and description) shown on the word’s page and to resell those rights through WordEstate. It does not give you ownership of the word itself, any copyright, or any trade mark or other intellectual property right, and it doesn’t stop anyone else using the word anywhere.
2. Prices and fees
Each available word costs £10 or US$13 (inc. VAT where applicable), paid by card through Stripe. When a word is resold on WordEstate through an accepted bid, WordEstate charges a 12.5% commission on the agreed price, deducted before the seller is paid. Example: a £200 sale pays the seller £175 and WordEstate £25. Bids are made in the currency the owner chooses for that word. The minimum bid is £10 or US$13, unless the owner sets a higher one.
3. Bidding and resale
Owners choose whether to accept bids. A bid is an offer to buy at that price if accepted. Sellers must set up a Stripe payout account (including identity checks) before accepting a bid. Once accepted, the buyer has 48 hours to pay; the listing transfers when payment succeeds. Unpaid accepted bids lapse. Owners may decline any bid, and bidders may withdraw a bid until it is accepted.
4. Content and moderation
Title deeds must not contain unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, defamatory, misleading or infringing content, malware or phishing links, or impersonate another person or business. You must have the right to use any logo or image you upload. WordEstate may review, edit, hide or remove any listing, and suspend accounts, at its discretion; serious or repeated breaches may lead to loss of listing rights without refund. Anyone can report a listing.
5. Visit counter
The public visit count shows filtered click-throughs to the owner’s links. It is an indication, not a guarantee of traffic. We may adjust counts to remove suspected automated or fraudulent clicks.
6. Word list
Words are common English nouns from Princeton WordNet 3.0. Proper nouns (names of people, places, brands) are excluded. Some words may be withdrawn for moderation reasons.
7. Privacy
We store your name, email, a hash of your password, your listings and your transactions. Card and identity details are handled by Stripe, not WordEstate. Click records store only salted hashes of network addresses, kept for 30 days.
